LGBT conversion therapy (Feb-2022) Latest Update!

LGBT conversion therapy

LGBT conversion therapy : Over 250 Muslim leaders express concern over LGBTQ (Feb-2022) conversion therapy ban

More than 250 British imams and Muslim leaders have urged the government to make it clear that no ban on LGBT conversational therapy will criminalize Muslims, which could discourage people from pursuing a homosexual lifestyle.

Muslim leaders want to ensure that any future plan to ban transformation therapy does not limit the religious community’s right to provide advice to people with same-sex appeal, and to ensure that Muslims have access to counseling that is not limited to LGBT identity.

At present, Muslim leaders fear that if a Muslim addresses an imam to seek advice on his or her same-sex feelings, the imam may be forced to break the law or provide no support for fear of becoming a criminal.

Muslim leaders say they are concerned that the government has not consulted with sufficient religious leaders on the proposed ban.

The government, which claims to be a “global leader in LGBT rights,” has held a public debate on the issue. Liz Truss, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development Action and Minister for Women and Equality, said the government was “determined to ban the coercive and disgusting practices of conversion therapy. We want every individual to be free to be themselves.” and proposals are made to protect LGBT people.

Suggestions include:

Legislation to introduce a new crime.

Citizens’ measures to ensure the effectiveness of the ban, including conversion therapy protection orders, restrictions on promotion, elimination of profit flows and strengthening of arguments for disqualification from a leading role in a charity.

Conversion therapy refers to any form of treatment or psychotherapy that aims to change a person’s sexual orientation or prevent a person’s identity. It is based on the premise that being gay, lesbian, bi or trans is more of a cure that can be cured. LGBT lobby organizations are urging health and social care leaders and supervisors to send a clear message to psychotherapists and counselors that attempts to treat homosexuals, gays, bisexuals and transgender people are harmful and dangerous.

Here is the full letter from Muslim leaders:

Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss MP

State Secretary and Minister for Women and Equality

Government Equality Office

16-20 Great Smith Street

London

SW1P 3BT

CC: Mike Freer MP, Kemi Badenoch MP

We welcome the extension of the government’s consultation and the clarification that any ban on forced “conversion therapy” will protect freedom of speech and freedom of religion. We are glad that the following are not included in the law:

Supportive conversations that do not force individuals to travel

Parents’ rights to educate their children in the values of their faith

Expressing the doctrine of faith as a private prayer

GPs operate within existing professional and regulatory frameworks

In view of this necessary clarification, transfer methods should be defined where:

“A practitioner forces an individual to change or maintain their sexual / gender identity without the individual’s consent, which causes harm.”

An example is the imposition of an LGBTQ identity on an individual who does not support such an identity or vice versa.

We believe that all future legislative plans should promote the rights of individuals who:

they do not identify as gay, lesbian or bisexual and have unwanted same-sex affection to assess their potential for opposite-sex affection

they do not recognize transgender people, but are confused about gender to assess their potential for gender compliance

In addition, we would like to acknowledge that organizations that support these vulnerable people:

  • Don’t fall into the trap of “speech conversion therapy”
  • It can still support people under the age of 18
  • They will still be able to advertise or promote their services
  • You can still register as a charity

We are concerned about the lack of inclusion of people who believe in this law. We call on the Office for Equality of Governments to move forward in a way that encompasses all positions and respects diversity. Greetings,

Yusuf Patel, SREIslamic. Ali Jaffery, strong stipe. Sheikh Fadel Soliman, Bridges Foundation.
